Translational Symmetry with Common Objects
Every day we use common objects to carry out a variety of tasks. Yet, for most of us, we take their design for granted. I want to elevate these objects to something beyond a representation of their mundane mass-produced state using translational symmetry. Translational symmetry is created by repeating the same object by shifting it a constant distance. When everyday objects are presented in a novel way, their unique geometries invite the viewer to reconsider their presence and function. I photographed each object in the multiple exposure mode for 5-27 frames by moving the camera in precise increments. Creating these images in-camera takes many hours of painstaking work.
