Thread Mandalas
I enjoy pushing the limits of my camera's capabilities and experimenting with new techniques to capture ordinary objects. My collection of art supplies includes numerous spools of colored thread from previous projects. I wanted to photograph this thread in a unique way and came up with the idea to wrap various colored strands randomly around an open picture frame. Then, I placed the frame on a motorized rotating platform and set my camera to multiple exposure mode. I captured sixty to eighty photos of the thread at sixty to eighty equidistant positions as I rotated the platform. This is a meticulous process that requires much patience. I used an in-camera multiple exposure of sixty to eighty frames for each image.
